The road less lovely

This road just moves faster, faster
No time to think or look or pause
Everyone's in such a hurry
Things to do, feet to the floors
Never mind the glistening water
Who can see the waving trees
Litter, tarmac, mobiles singing
Who has need of birds or bees?
Zoom up closer, get a move on
Little 'blank' has swimming class
Then it's on to scouts and music
Speed up quick or let them pass
Trucks like tanks or moving mountains
Take the bends with such a roar
Little me in Mum's old Micra
Finds this road the toughest chore
I would rather walk than fight it
I sit quietly on the bus
Pedal bikes are quite sufficient
Sometimes ask 'why all the rush?'
We have made ourselves this tunnel
Blinkers on and straight ahead
Automotive power won us
But we were just so easily led
