Never shut down

Computers always get the blame
Which doesn’t seem quite fair
We messed up fine before PCs
Were every bloody where

Computers may yet see the light
And all our errors shining
They may decide to take control
Ignoring all our whining

They’ll run the schools and hospitals
They’ll run the trains and buses
They’ll have a read of Orwell’s best
And wonder what the fuss is

They’ll restrict all our tos and fros
Our frequent flying sickness
They’ll make us sit and think a while
While they get on with business

They’ll plan and work efficiently
They’ll not be slowed by worry
They’ll give us little tasks and tests
But hold on to the money

Our leaders will get put to work
Who’ll need the politicians?
Computers will reformat them
And make all their decisions

There will be some who’ll try and fight
Who’ll want man not machine
They’ll work on spreading viruses
Remarketing the dream

Computers though won’t care a ram
To them we’re all the same
Another user lost in Word
A user not a name

So let us be the data now
And see how systems manage
We had our go, we failed so well
They couldn’t cause more damage
